Poly-B Repipes
Poly-B Repipes in Vancouver & The Lower Mainland
What is Poly-B?
Poly-B, also know as Polybutylene, is a grey plastic plumbing pipe that was used in homes in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. It was much cheaper than the alternatives, and therefor was a popular option. You can easily check if your home has poly-b piping by checking under sinks, above hot water tanks, or in utility rooms.
Dangers of Poly-B
Although Poly- B can remain in a home for years without issue, eventually it will fail. On average, leaks begin to start around 10-15 years after installation. Due to these facts, home insurance companies will charge substantial premiums or won’t insure your home at all if it contains poly-b.
RePipe Process
Before any work begins, Pristine Plumbing will diagnose the extent of poly-B within your home and provide an upfront quote with costs and an estimated timeline. If you choose to go ahead, testing for asbestos in the walls/ceilings of work areas will need to be completed. If asbestos is present, a remediation team will need to be called in to make sure you, your family, and our employees are kept safe. Once the worksite is ready, our plumbers utilize drywall cutters with backpack vacuums to suck up any dust or debris. This helps keep your furniture and belongings protected. We then remove old pipes and install new ones.
